Sorry blog... I've been gone far too long. Got distracted by work and haven't done other stuff for a while so i thought i should get going with something. I've been learning flash with work so i thought it appropriate to paint a caricature in that. Spent a few days getting used to flash and painting in it. Here's Nell.

Alrighty guys, here are some drawings i've been doing the past 3 or so days... i had a bit of an epiphany yesterday and this morning and was really wanting to write more on gesture drawing and having fun and relaxing except i am way too tired to concentrate (thanks to work) so i'll try and write it another day when i'm not so tired and my eyes aren't hurting... anyway these drawings were done at work in my lunch break and the past weekend around and about south bank and the queen st mall...

Yesterday I spent the day walking around with Steve around south bank, had a few beers at the plough inn and then went to a free comedy gig at the powerhouse... Just a little info so you guys understand where some of these drawings came from... Bon Appétit!

I started modelling a new character in blender the other day and here's the progress report. He's supposed to be a demon of sorts but it should become more clear as i model more of him. The body is basically done, working on the head now.

Blender Demoreel

Here is my demoreel of the work i've been doing this past month in blender. This was mainly an application for the durian project. It would be amazing to help and develop this great program. As a personal note, I am loving the action editor for animation and everything just seems to be generally more well set out than maya and max in my opinion. I must admit it took me a while to get used to blender, after watching the development of blender for 5 years and occasionally trying to dabble only to give up just before understanding how to use it. I'm pretty annoyed that i wasn't able to animate the girl model because i've just about rigged her but just ran out of time. I also would like to work on her hair and softbody skirt soon. The song is from Chuck by Sum 41. Oh and the entire demoreel was composited in blender as well.

More on project durian, i've got some rough sketches of some fantasy characters if anyone would like to see?

I've been working on this model on and off for about a week now... I've still gotta put a belt and sword sheath and a few other things... not too sure about the longer skirt, thinking maybe it should be smaller? what do you all think? After all the modeling is finished i'm going to UV Unwrap her and texture her then put some particle hair hopefully similar to this, then some cloth similar to the Miku character i animated with before, then onto the rigging and then hopefully some animation... any suggestions, recommendations?

Okay so i started another animation last night and have done a bit more today so hope you all like (about 5-6 hrs worth)... i got reference from www.shaolin-wushu.de... i wanna fix the arm ik controls because there seems to be a bit of popping and then maybe add some facial animation later. I'll also try putting the legs on fk instead of ik because another friend noticed there could have been better arcs of his legs in the air. I wanna know what you guys think. O halso i got the rig from here if you were interested. I'm hoping to start my own character soon for demoreel purposes but for now i just wanna put together some animations for the durian application

started another animation today... blender again... this one was with kiopaas rig "pantin"... these are just keyframes (bout an hr and a half of work) and will continue work on it... just felt the need to post something i'd done lately

edit: k so i've uploaded an updated version... i fixed a few things after work last night... i can't believe how easy it was to constrain the box to his hands (in my opionio much easier than maya)... vimeo is still stuffing up the end of the animation for some reason... please let me know what you think

Okay so today's the first day off from kmart in 6 days so i thought i'd do something with my time. So I started animating a walkcycle to get to grips with blenders animation tools and used this awesome rig of japanese virtual superstar Hatsune Miku, complete with cloth simulation and softbody hair. It's just a start but it seems blender has some very powerful animation tools (although there are a few things that are lacking but you get that with everything). I think it's a tad slow but lemme know what you think. Hope y'all likes!

Wellity wellity wellity what do we have here? I drew these today whilst sitting in the Queen St Mall. While i was drawing these a german designer came up to me and told me these were great drawings and he wished he could draw like that then he wished me the best. Made me feel a lot better than I had been all week. Then on my train back, a girl from work sat with me and i showed her and now's she's asked me to draw a tattoo for her so I will post that up when I've done it.

Also I've included some of my design work from the year I did design school. Apologies for the quality... i couldn't find the original files so had to photograph the prints. Enjoy!

Pirate Film Take 27. This is still a work in progress. Cleaned up the timing so it's tighter. Want to change the end so the pirate lands inside the other ship and cuts to the tumbling pirate in front of another pirate rubbing his thumb to his fingers like he wants something. Work's (k-mart) had me on a leash for the past 2 weeks due to the toy sale causing me to be less inspired and motivated to do anything but today i had my first day off and this arvo i felt the pressure to do something. Here we have it folks, the beginnings of the dawn of aquarius (if aquarius meant a short film about two pirates by liam hockins).

I have slapped together some of the finest moments know to piratekind, based on a real-life story of a small pirate, in a hilarious situation. Let me know if something doesn't make sense or if you have any ideas.

Digest and spew out some comments please.

Oh by the way the silver blocks represents a knife and a sword and the sphere in the door represents a bullet shot setting off the cannon fuse.

Can't be bothered rendering wireframes cos maya makes it difficult but it took a bit of cleaning up cos when i imported it, maya turned the model into tris. Oh yeah i added some hands too. Enjoy!

Here's an old body that i started a while ago that i've tried to define a bit more recently. It's slightly cartoonish and i've still got a bit to go.

What do you think? Any suggestions? I'm prolly going to stitch the head i've been working on onto it and then skin it in maya. Anyways i'm tired and going to bed...

Here's the head now modelled (apart from the ears, which i'll get to next). I turned the specularity down and added a few lights.

Macca, Blender is another 3d program that's opensource and i used it to model on my computer back on the coast cos it's free, small and easy to use... not sure how it is with animating tho... might export it to maya if i finish it. Pretty awesome for a free program! Don't know how long it'll take to finish it but now uni's starting back up i can prolly work on it a bit more. Thanks Alex.

Rambling and Sketches

One of my best mates, Glenn, got married to Tegan last night. It was a very entertaining and event filled evening. They got married at the ANZAC memorial near kings beach and they couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day, clear skies and beaming sun. They had the reception at the Caloundra Power Boat club and that was awesome as well. Congratulations guys!!

Concerning our film i've got a bit of animation to catch up on. The last scene i posted i've improved exponentially i believe. I'll post it when i get the whole scene animated with both characters, hopefully by tomorrow. I'm really getting into this thing called animation. :D

Splendourous... :D

I just came back from Byron Bay yesterday. Splendour was awesome, not only that but the place we stayed at was amazing. When we arrived there, the house looked like it belonged in Tuscany. We went inside and everyone's jaws dropped as we realised what we had stumbled upon. There was a pool, a pond and a hut situated over the pond. I can't really describe it and photos don't do this place justice (however i will put some up later :D). We're gonna try and claim this prime piece of real estate for next year when we go to Splendour again.

Splendour was brilliant. When we arrived there on Saturday, about 12:30-1, and the first thing i noticed was that the air was full of weed. Then we went and saw the first band for our Splendour experience, the horrors. They were alright. Then we went and got tacos and i spilt the sauce on me :(. The beautiful girls were next and they were really cool. Then me and the boys split off from the girls and went to see the howling bells which was freaking superb. Might i just say that Juanita Stein is hot!! Then the boys went off for blue king brown (awesome) and only caught the end of grinspoon (damn). Then my favourite band for the day, Kaiser Chiefs, played and they were just great as were powderfinger. However after that we had to wait an hour and a half in the parking lot!!!

Intermission

Day 2:
Now the start of day 2 was a little more hazy as i was all filled up on talent juice. We got there at 2:30ish? We were all together again for Kisschasy although we had to weave our way through the crowds. They were great. Then i tore myself away from the group and went to find my sister and friend. I spent about an hour or so trying to find her :( but when i eventually did my mate was with her so that saved some time wasting. So we went and got food and went to the merch tent and i wanted to buy a black and gray scarf but would you believe it the person in front of me bought the last one so i settled for a green and black scarf. Then me and Sim and the girls met up for a few brewskies outside the josh pike tent. Then i went to the toilet and completely lost everyone. Then i spent an hour or so trying to find Sim and the girls (apparently sim and the girls were on opposite sides of the festival so i was messaging them and getting mixed messages back... man they must've thought i was stupid...D'oh well) Next up was bloc party where i met up with Alex coincidentally (which was very lucky cause otherwise we both would have been loners for bloc party and arctic monkeys). Unfortunately as we were in the mosh pit, Alex and i got separated and i got to dance with a lucky lady (lol). This was also fortunate for me though because as we were in the mosh i dropped my new scarf unknowingly and she saw it and picked it up. Thanks Megan. Bloc Party went off. I was very happy with them. Then as they finished up me and Megan went our separate ways and i fortunately met up with Alex again for Arctic Monkeys. When i met up with Alex, he told me he had a shocking time at bloc party. Sorry Alex. But at least we were together again for the last show which were also fan-freaking-tastic.

Overall i was very happy with the way Splendour went and would recommend it to anyone.

Here is some more animation I did today. Today we've had to rethink the script. This may be a good thing, however we're going to have to get the script locked off this time before we proceed i believe. On the other hand, i'm going to Splendour in the Grass in a couple of days and that's going to be fan-freaking-tastic. YAY!!!!! (I'm a little annoyed that arctic monkeys and bloc party are clashing with the shins though) PARTY TIME :D
